An intelligent reef companion

The intelligent reef tank app for ICP and Apex.

Imports Triton results. Reads your Hanna Checker.
Forecasts when you'll run out of salt.

Because reefing is hard enough without running out of salt the day you need a water change.

Free during beta · Built by reefers, for reefers · Early days, fast iteration

What it does

Every other reef app shows you numbers. AquaSensei reads them, explains them, and knows your tank.

01

Reads your ICP

Triton today. ATI and Oceamo soon. Interpreted against your livestock. Fixes your tank, not upsells you.

02

Watches your Apex

Probes, outlets, DOS rates. In an interface that breathes. Coming summer 2026.

03

Thinks like a reefer

Reads R2R, not Reddit. Cites its sources. Won't dose at 1000x.

How it works

From new tank to in control, in three steps.

No spreadsheets. No CLI. No reading the manual. Just the loop reefers actually run.

STEP 01

Tell Sensei about your tank.

Pick saltwater or freshwater, the style (SPS, mixed, soft / LPS, FOWLR, planted, shrimp), size and age. Snap a photo if you have one. Sensei says hello in your voice — not boilerplate.

STEP 02

Log readings the way you actually test.

Photo of a Hanna Checker LCD. Photo of a colour strip against the reference card. Refractometer eyepiece. Triton ICP PDF. Manual entry. Whatever is in front of you, Sensei reads it and lets you confirm before it saves.

STEP 03

Get the answer, not the dump.

The Sensei Score tells you what's actually going on, in three short sentences with one concrete next step. Tasks remind you before things drift. Supplies forecast when you'll run out. Reefing without the Friday-night panic.

Who's behind it

Built by reefers, for reefers.

AquaSensei is built by Tom Linly and the team at PrintedReef — the reef-keeper-owned shop that makes 3D-printed reef gear. Tom runs a 120-gallon SPS-dominant reef on Apex, Trident, and DOS. Every feature you see here came from a real frustration on his own tank.

The app is the reef-keeping companion he wanted but couldn't find — so we built it. No subscription ransom. No data sales. No upsell loop disguised as advice. Just the calm, specific reef-tank operator we wish we'd had on our first build.

We ship every week and listen to every piece of feedback. The changelog is our receipts.

Common questions

Everything reefers ask before signing up.

Do I need a Neptune Apex to use AquaSensei?
No. AquaSensei works fully without an Apex — manual entry, photo OCR for Hanna Checkers and test strips, ICP PDF imports, supply forecasting and Sensei Score all run without any controller. Apex Fusion integration is in development for summer 2026 and will be optional.
Which ICP labs are supported?
Triton ICP-OES PDFs are imported today. ATI Labfish and Oceamo are next on the roadmap — drop the PDF in and AquaSensei picks the rows that map to your tank's parameters and lets you confirm before save.
Is AquaSensei really free?
Yes. Free during beta and the core stays free at launch — unlimited tanks, unlimited readings, reminders, ICP imports, Sensei Score and the AI narrative. We don't believe in subscription ransom for basic reef-keeping tools. Optional paid extras may exist later, but the core stays free.
How does the Sensei Score work?
It's a layered 0–100 score. Health is a weighted, recency-decayed score per parameter against your tank-type targets, with cycling-mode targets for tanks under 90 days. Stability is the inverse of 30-day coefficient of variation. The AI narrative explains in plain English what's actually going on and ends with one concrete next step — or "nothing to do today" if everything is steady.
Can AquaSensei read my Hanna Checker or test strip?
Yes. Snap a photo of a Hanna Checker LCD, a colour strip against a reference card, or your refractometer eyepiece — Claude Vision reads the value, returns a confidence score, and lets you nudge the reading before save. It refuses to invent a reading on a blurry photo and tells you to retest.
Does my data leave the app?
Your tank data stays in our Postgres database — we don't sell it, share it, or feed it to ad networks. Photo and ICP processing happens server-side via Anthropic's Claude API, anonymised by tank id. You can export your data at any time.
What kinds of tanks does AquaSensei support?
Saltwater (SPS-dominant, mixed reef, soft / LPS, FOWLR) and freshwater (high-tech planted, low-tech planted, community, African cichlid, shrimp). Each subtype has its own parameter targets, scoring profile, and cycling-mode tolerances. You can also rename, hide, or add custom parameters per tank.
Do you have an iOS or Android app?
AquaSensei is a progressive web app — installable on iOS, Android, and desktop today. Native apps are on the roadmap. The web app works on every device with sync, offline-friendly behaviour and push notifications coming as native ships.
Who is behind AquaSensei?
Tom Linly and the PrintedReef team. PrintedReef makes 3D-printed reef gear; Tom runs a 120-gallon SPS-dominant reef on Apex, Trident, and DOS. The app is the reef-keeping companion he wanted but couldn't find. See the About section.
